Today’s Embrace Church, an American Baptist East, came about as the result of the blending of three entities.
East Side Baptist Church was established in 1921. It eventually moved to the corner of Harlan & Washington Avenues. Eastern Heights Baptist Church was established in 1959 and eventually built at 6300 Washington Avenue.
Eastern Heights sought a merger in the mid-1970s, but it was voted down by East Side Baptist. In the mid-1990s, the roles were reversed, and Eastern Heights rejected the offer. But in 2000, Eastern Heights took the idea back to East Side Baptist and committees from both churches did exhaustive work in gauging peoples’ feelings. The merger of these two American Baptist churches was approved on Oct. 1, 2001. They merged their belongings and began meeting at the Washington Avenue address. On Dec. 2, 2001 the church’s name officially became American Baptist East.
The third entity, LifeLifters, formed in 2000 and began meeting at ABE’s facility on Saturday evenings in September 2001, shortly after the 9/11 tragedy. Eight months after they began meeting at the church, they came under the umbrella of ABE, using the same pastor as ABE. The church was often referred to as ABE/LifeLifters until a unification in January of 2020 led to its official name, Embrace Church.
Embrace is a community of believers who act in faith and unapologetically love God, our city, and our world. Our mission is to extend unrelenting love to everyone. And while we are not perfect, we understand the importance of putting God first while seeking to live lives that please Him and point people to Him.
Who We Are
We are a community of believers who act in faith and unapologetically love God, our city and our world. As a church we maintain a posture of learning. However, we will not bend on our Core Values. We understand the importance of putting God first in all aspects of our life. Though we are not perfect, we seek to live a life that pleases God and points people to Him.
What To Expect
We place a very high value on creating a worship experience that openly celebrates Jesus and actively attracts people far from God. We desire to present the gospel message in a relevant and exciting way. We offer age appropriate ministry for your whole family. Our services are one hour and include worship and teaching.
Why We Exist
We are highly focused on the people we are trying to reach and know that it is our mission to extend unrelenting love to everyone. We will not cater to personal preference in our mission to reach this city. We will actively defend our unity and our mission to reach people far from God. Our church goes above and beyond to give sacrificially to see our city changed.
At Embrace Church we actively reach out to people who are distant from God. Where most people run from culture, we purpose to utilize and engage in culture in an effort to connect people to God almighty. Though we may change our methods, we will not change our theological position.

We are proud to offer kids ministry during the 10:00a service.
Kids are a BIG deal.
Children are the lifeblood of our community. We invest in them because they are our future! We strive to prepare our kids to stand strong in this world by building a solid foundation of faith. Each service kids are lead in worship and taught essential Bible lessons in fun and exciting ways. Our goal is to partner with families to grow Jesus-loving, scripture-knowing, world-changing kids who will never stray.
First time guests.
You’ll want to come about 10 minutes early so that you can fill out an info card. This adds your child to the parent call list to ensure your child’s safety.
Sundays at nine and eleven am your child will enter through the Lobby where you can check them in. They will then interact with other kids, their group leader, learn about Jesus and other age-appropriate activities. EMBRACE KIDS happens every Sunday during our 9:00 and 11:00 am services.
There is a place for you, here, at Embrace Kids!
MIGHTY KIDS DAYCARE
Embrace is proud to offer weekly daycare services.
Mighty Kids began in 2003 as a mission of the church. As a Christ centered daycare, we strive to instill the love of Christ, respect for others, and learning through play. We are devoted to each child as individuals and we meet them where they are. We adhere to the vision of Embrace Church and work to make disciples for Christ of all women, men, boys, and girls.
